As a HomeVestor franchise, Wes English is used to buying ugly houses.
But he wasn't prepared for the ugliness of a rodent- and flea-infested house he recently bought in north Fort Worth.
"You would open the door and the smell of ammonia from the animal urine in the house was just overwhelming," English, owner of Arlington-based Caliente Properties, told reporter Andrea Ahles. The house was already leaning from foundation problems, and the front porch was decaying, he says.
So English entered it into HomeVestors' Ugliest House of the Year contest. Pictures can be seen on www.theugliesthouse.com next to other finalists in Dallas, San Antonio, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Detroit.
Anyone can vote until Nov. 15, and if English's house wins, Caliente Properties will receive advertising credits it can use to buy more "We buy ugly houses" billboards.
English says he resold the property to another investor who is renovating it. Already 150 bags of trash have been cleaned out of the home. "It's one of the ugliest houses I've ever been in," English says.
