KENSINGTON, Md. (WUSA) -- You've seen the billboards that claim they will buy your ugly house.
The CEO of HomeVestors wants to let you know they really do.
The brother and sister franchise team of Sheila and Eric Konecke just purchased a house on Nimitz Road in Kensington. The man living there nearly destroyed it by neglect. "He was having trouble. He couldn't keep it up. It was a mess,"Eric Konecke said. After a basement fire--it was downright ugly. So naturally they bought it.
"If it's ugly, it's okay. Some people have problems they need to get out of, and that's what we're here for,"Sheila Konecke says.
HomeVestor CEO John Hayes says some people who want them to buy their ugly houses are going through a divorce, or lost their job. And now with the foreclosure crisis, calls are way up.
"Some people are not quite to the foreclosure point, some can save their home and their credit history, by selling their homes at a discount,"Hayes says.
Sheila and Eric bought the Nimitiz Road house for $250,000. They spent $100,000 renovating it--and it's back on the market for $419,000.
But don't mistake this for flipping--that's an F word CEO John Hayes bristles at.
"We're protecting neighborhood, by taking a house-getting it rehabbed and back on the market so it can make a good home for someone."
It took six months to transform the neighborhood eyesore on Nimitiz Road into a house that's market ready. Perhaps no one is happier than the neighbors. Eric Konecke says "the best part is seeing the finished product and seeing the neighbors. They're happy."
