NARHRI Stops North Carolina Bill

Are you interested in helping NARHRI protect your industry?
By John Grant

The National Association of Responsible Home Rebuilders and Investors (NARHRI) successfully delayed a measure in North Carolina that would have essentially banned Subject To and Lease Option transactions, and in addition banned real estate seminars that teach these methods. However, the delay is only until 2006, when NARHRI anticipates there will be similar proposals in other states.

NARHRI lobbyists met with the Attorney General's office, members of the House and Senate, and leadership in the General Assembly and held many discussions about problems with the measure and how the General Assembly should focus on producing a product that protects consumers and at the same time does not deprive consumers and real estate investors from utilizing certain types of transactions to avoid foreclosure.

NARHRI is committed to continue its work with the North Carolina legislature before it convenes in May 2006 to educate the members about our industry and produce compromise legislation that protects both consumers and real estate investors. NARHRI believes that its success in North Carolina demonstrates that its approach to combating these proposals, which is not adversarial, but rather based upon the ability to access lawmakers and work in concert with them, is the formula for success at the state level. As NARHRI continues to grow, its goal is to be able to serve the industry in every state that faces the types of issues seen in North Carolina this year. NARHRI's vision of a national voice for the industry that operates in every state is the same formula used by every other serious industry facing public policy challenges.

NARHRI, which is comprised of individuals and small businesses, represents home rehabbers, real estate investors and promoters. Our industry not only helps consumers realize the dream of homeownership, but also helps re-build communities throughout the country. NARHRI is committed to creating a legislative and regulatory atmosphere for the home re-builders and investors that serves both consumers and the industry.
