NARHRI Efforts In 2006

To issue report on the real estate investing industry
By John Grant

John Grant
NARHRI Executive Director John Grant issued the following statement regarding NARHRI's multi-state lobbying effort for 2006:

"For too long, responsible and honest real estate investors and home rehabbers have sat idly by while a vicious public policy and public relations campaign has strived to label the entire industry as a sham designed to steal property from unsuspecting consumers. I am proud to announce today the birth of a new era as NARHRI launches its multi-state campaign which seeks to educate consumers, lawmakers and the media about the benefits the real estate investing community provides to consumers and communities.

Legislation spawned by bias and poorly researched reports which focus solely on allegations of fraud in the investing industry is being considered in several states in 2006, and NARHRI plans to be in these states to work with lawmakers to ensure that the have a grasp of the true nature of the real estate investing industry before considering legislation that could effectively destroy the entire industry. NARHRI intends to address the issue of fraud in the industry and offer sensible solutions to the problems so that consumers are protected as well as ethic professional real estate investors. NARHRI categorically rejects the contention of consumer groups, who frankly are behaving more like anti-business groups rather than pro-consumer, that the only way to address fraud in this industry is to put it out of business.

NARHRI will initially launch our multi-state campaign in the following state: Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois and North Carolina. We plan to enter several more states later in 2006. I am also pleased to announce that we will be issuing a report on our industry that will provide a complete overview of the real estate investing industry, recognize the types of fraud that takes place in the industry, and offer solutions that will protect consumers and allow this important and growing industry to continue to thrive.

The contrast between our campaign and that of the groups trying to put the industry out of business will be striking. We are about education, protecting consumers, and allowing the entrepreneurial spirit to soar. Those who have smeared us are about scaring consumers with half-truths, humiliating people who choose this industry as their profession, and duping lawmakers into considering putting our industry out of business.
