Franchise saves elderly woman's childhood home

Not even the city's mayor could convince 91-year-old Legretta Evans of Gary, IN, to sell her childhood home. As the roof buckled, the house became unlivable. Ms. Evans moved to live with her daughter while the condition of her home continued to deteriorate. Without money to pay for repairs, Ms. Evans refused the profit she might have earned from the sale of her home. Instead, she transferred the title of her residence to her church so that when she passed away, her church could sell the home and keep the profits as her final offering.

Ms. Evans' lively personality and spunk made such an impression on the mayor that he was determined to help her. That's when he turned to the local HVA franchise, Red Brick Investments Properties. During a meeting with Minas Litos of Red Brick, the mayor asked if he would like to make a donation toward the repair of her home. For Minas, the timing could not have been better. He had already made the decision to give back to the community on an annual basis by renovating the home of a person in need. This seemed like the perfect place to start. So, to the mayor's surprise and delight, Minas not only made a donation. He took on the project – for free!

In early June, Red Brick Investments Properties began a two-week-long, full home remodel that will replace the roof, siding, carpet and drywall of the home. News of the goodwill gesture has already gained the attention of the local newspaper and television media. And HVA could not have asked for a better way to communicate the ethical services it provides.

When the rehab is finished, Ms. Evans will enjoy the comfort and safety that have been restored to her childhood home. The mayor will enjoy having a happy constituent. And HVA's Red Brick Investments Properties will enjoy being the hero for everyone.
